Canon introduces a Mirroless Camera, the Canon EOS M
Canon introduces a Mirroless Camera, the Canon EOS M

Mirrorless cameras seem to be the latest trend in the market. With their big interchangeable lenses and sensors, these cameras are much powerful than the conventional compact cameras, while their respectably smaller size makes them more portable than the standard dSLRs.

We have seen Mirrorless camera from Olympus, Panasonic, Nikon and Sony already, but Canon was not among the early boarders of mirrorless camera bandwagon. However, Canon has now jumped into the fray with its announcement to launch its first mirrorless camera Canon EOS MĚ. The Canon EOS M has an 18-mp APS-C CMOS sensor, which is the same size that is used in Canon's EOS Rebel dSLRs. It makes use of Canon's all new EF-M lenses, and the elective adapters allows it to function with the EF-S SLR and EF lenses of the company. The sensor can go up to ISO 12,800 sensitivity and increase to ISO 25,600. It also makes use of Canon's DIGIC 5 image processor.

The EOS M also has a 3-in, 1,040,000-pixel touchscreen. Going by the specifications, the camera sounds like a strong Canon digital SLR bundled in a compact body. Canon will be accompanying the EOS M with two brand new EF-M lenses, along with a prime 22-mm f/2 kit lens, which will be included in EOS M itself. Canon will also offer an 18-55-mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Canon dSLR lenses will be used with an adapter, and some of Canon's GPS modules, Speedlights, and some other accessories, which will be compatible with the EOS M.

The newly announced Canon EOS M along with the 22-mm lens will be entering the market in the month of October and will be having a retail price of $799.99. The camera will be available in assorted colors. Canon will ship the EF-EOS M mount adapter and EF-M 18-55mm lens simultaneously, and they will be having respective retail price of $199.99 and $299.99 respectivley.
