Full Mobile Number Portability Coming Soon

Mobile Number Portability service in India started by the telecom operators has been a successful maneuver with over 42 million subscribers opting for MNP since its launch, as per the data from the telecom regulatory authority of India. Now, taking it to next stage, the Department of Telecom (DoT) will be bringing full Mobile Number Portability in their New Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012 to be announced by the end of this month. The New Telecom Policy 2012 will introduce full MNP to allow the subscriber to change the operators across the country, while retaining their number. The full mobile number portability is one of the highlights of NTP (2012). As for now, the MNP in India allows the users to port their number to another operator only within their circle, but they cannot avail the facility if they shift states. Along with the full mobile number portability, one major feature of New Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012 will be free roaming across the country. At present, the users have to pay from one to three rupees per minute as roaming charge, although there are some operators that do not charge for incoming calls if the call is from the same network.
