Olympus Refreshes Pen Camera: XZ - 2

Olympus has refreshed two of its popular PEN camera - replacing E-PM1 with E-PM2 PEN mini & E-PL3with E-PL5 PEN Lite. Both the camera has 16-MP image sensor and processing engine as OM-DE-M5. Both of them have an impressive touchscreen rear display, for which you can adjust settings easily, fixed rear 460K – dot LCD.

E-PM2 PEN mini & E-PL5 PEN Lite shoot at 8 frames per second with locked focus but slow 3.5 frames per second. Both the cameras don’t have Wi-Fi but they support wireless transfer to an Android or iOS smart phone or tablet.

The best thing about this camera is 15 mm f/8 lens at only 0.3 inch. E-PM2 PEN mini & E-PL5 PEN Lite are compact and slim, which produces a 30 mm field of view and focus as close as 0.3 meters.

The M. Zuiko digital Ed 60mm F2.8 macro lens used here is sealed against dust and water, which makes it quite appealing for EM-5 owners. This camera has got a focus limiter switch and is capable of 1:1 magnification.

As far as the point-and-shoot camera is concerned, the company has upgraded their highly regarded XZ-1 compact camera.

The XZ-2 on the other hand dumps the 10-megapixel 1/1.63-inch CCD sensor and comes with a 12-megapixel 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor. The lens of the camera is pretty much the same featuring 28-112mm f/1.8-2.5 design. The camera also gets a variable hand grip on the front, in addition to a button, which lets you to behave how the control rings feels, you can use it with the detent clicks or can choose to stop them for silky operation.

The OLED display on the rear end of the camera now tilts, so as to let you use the camera above your head or at waist level. The camera uses the same accomplice port that we saw on XZ-1, so if you are upgrading from their you can use the same accessories. The display here supports touch control, which is another feature that was missing from the XZ-1.

Pricing and availability for the new cameras and lenses has not yet been set.
