Software giant Microsoft recently launched their latest Operating System Windows 8 officially, but has limited for the new machines only. However, if you want to upgrade to the latest offering from Microsoft then you can do that through digital download. Now, you must be asking what the requirements are.

Therefore, here’s what.

As oppose to Microsoft’s previous offerings including Windows 7, which was available in six versions, the Windows 8 has lesser number of versions to be precise only two – Windows 8 & Windows 8 Pro.


The Windows 8 Pro version can only be bought in stores as an upgrade or a new software package, while the basic Windows 8 (called just, “Windows 8″), comes pre-installed on certain models of Tablets and PCs.


The easiest way to upgrade your current PC to Windows 8 is by buying the Windows 8 Pro. Microsoft is selling the Operating System for the users of Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows XP SP3, and Windows Vista as an upgrade for $39.99 until January 31, 2013.

However, if you have bought a Windows 7 PC on or after 2nd June, 2012 then you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 through its Windows Upgrade Offer.


The system specifications for the Windows 8 Upgrade are as follows:

·        Processor: 1 GHz or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2

·        RAM: 1 GB (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

·        Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

·        Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver


So if your PC fulfills all these requirements then you are eligible for Windows 8 upgrade, however in order to get the touch functionality make sure that you have the monitor or tablet that supports multitouch.
