Sony’s big challenge is to bring PlayStation 4 into the living room

When Sony pulls back the curtain on the latest next generation PlayStation videogame console, the world would realize how much the Japanese consumer electronics titan has been paying attention. Sony could double down on hardware to improvise on the realistic graphics and rich game play.

The PlayStation 3 was launched as an engineering triumph complete with Blue ray high definition disk player capabilities. Sony has been free to talk about hardware upgrades like enhanced graphics, controllers with touch pads and the announcement of its own cable style service to route film or music content to PlayStation consoles. Free games or low cost games on smart phones or tablet computers are exerting pressure on video game companies to deliver games worthy playing. It is reported that Sony has to handle a lot of pressure as gamers are desperate for innovation and better games. While Sony ramps up content and services for PlayStation, it also needs to convince people to upgrade to the latest models.

A dearth of compelling titles is the reason behind Nintendo’s disappointing sales of its Wii U consoles introduced late last year. This is a case study Sony can’t afford to ignore or take lightly. Really, there is a need for Sony to nail it with its games. It’s expected from Sony to remain mum about pricing and specific release date while unveiling the PS4 later this month.
