Google restricts non-Play store Android app updates
Google restricts non-Play store Android app updates

Google has banned developers from being able to update apps without using the Google Play store, after Facebook was found to be updating its Android app without using traditional Google Play methods.

The Google Play store terms and conditions read, “An app downloaded from Google Play may not modify, replace or update its own APK binary code using any method other than Google Play's update mechanism.”

This new policy will help to keep malicious content out of user’s devices especially those that do not download apps from the Play store.

From the last few months, Google has been sprucing up the Play Store by removing more than 60,000 low-quality apps, bumping off games for spamming and even changing the interface and look of the Play Store. The latest build 4.0.26 has brought a much improved Play Store.
