According to Blackberry CEO Tablet demand will tend to nil soon

As the new BlackBerry Q10 device is being delivered into the hands of the BlackBerry faithful, amongst many asking why anyone still needs a physical keyboard, the company’s CEO is predicting that it’ll only be a few more years before tablets are no more.

Blackberry CEO, Thorsten Heins says that tablets will be dead in five years.

“In five years I don’t think there’ll be a reason to have a tablet anymore. May be a big screen in your workspace, but not a tablet as such. Tablets themselves are not a good business model,” said Thorsten Heins.

Tablets have powered Apple and increasingly Samsung to huge profits, so Mr Heins’ suggestions will be met with incredulity in some quarters. But diminishing profit margins on iPads could also indicate that the market will become less attractive over time.

Heins said he expects BlackBerry to be a leader in mobile computing in the next five years, but apparently without the aid of tablets.
